    I would say that her confidence came first and influenced her language.

    You’re right, it’s so important to remember that what you say is as important as how you say it – especially when you are asking people to do something. You are much more likely to get positive results when your message is delivered in a positive and confident manner.

    I need a job. I want to be retired. :)

  2. How vocabulary is interpreted is influenced by people’s background. I had an experience where I used the acronym ASAP in an email. The recipient of the email said there was no way they could get the task done AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! Apparently in the military ASAP carries an urgency that just the words don’t.

    Communications lesson learned.
